About Lenden Eakin

2nd Amendment Expert and leading firearms attorney Lenden Eakin has been practicing law for over 30 years. He is President of the Law Firm of Ferris & Eakin, P.C. in Roanoke, Virginia, that handles firearms related representation including the New York City civil suits against Virginia gun dealers, ATF&E and Virginia State Police dealer issues, firearms failure and ammunition defects resulting in injury, and consultation on criminal cases with a firearms component. Law practice also covers estate planning and estate administration for firearms collection and dealer inventories, including Class 3 cases handled, which include many where personal injury or deaths caused by firearms, vehicles or other instrumentation. 

Eakin holds a Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) Dealer, with Class 3 Special Occupational Tax (SOT) stamp in Roanoke, Virginia. He has been a Licensed dealer since 1987; and has accumulated more than 40 years experience in buying, selling and trading firearms, and has been an exhibitor at gun shows for this same period of time. He has been a National Rifle Association (NRA) Firearms Instructor since 1994; Currently certified in Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun and Personal Protection.

Eakin is also author of the recently released book, SHOWDOWN: The Looming Crisis Over Gun Control. Eakin's 'well researched' book quotes chapter and verse of state and federal gun laws and how they apply, He clears the air on the misconceptions by gun control advocates that Universal Background Checks, Large Capacity Magazines and Assault Rifles are the three biggest causes of gun violence. As Lone Wolf terrorists and mentally ill assassins garner fear and challenge the public's security, increasing numbers of Americans are buying guns and secure conceal carry permits toi provide their own security, As demonstrated by recent events in Ferguson, MO and New York City involving the actions of police officers, the public are growing weary of their faith in law enforcement to provide timely and effective protection for the general public.

Eakin was a Captain with the Virginia Army National Guard, serving for 11 years. His military experience included M-16 Range Officer for an Infantry Battalion at Fort Bragg, Fort Pickett and Fort AP Hill; Qualified “Expert” with rifle (15 times) and pistol (twice). His expertise in firearms includes; Browning .50 MG, M-60 MG, M-16 on full automatic, 105 MM guns, 82 MM Mortars, LAWs rocket, claymores and other weapons while on active duty, mostly with the 29th Infantry Division.

For many years Eakin has been a member of the Professional Gun Retailers Association, National Firearms Act Trade and Collection Association, National Rifle Association, Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club, Franklin County Gun Club, Arrowhead Hunt Club, American Bar Association, Virginia Bar Association and 116th Infantry Regiment, and National Speakers Association. Eakin is a much sought after expert on gun control issues for talk radio and cable news.

He attended Virginia Tech's MBA program (no degree), the University of Richmond School of Law (J.D. 1984), College of William and Mary (B.B.A. 1979), U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training, Officer Basic and Officer Advance courses. He has attended or held various seminars, courses and classes related to firearms and continuing legal education.

Eakin's father was a 33 year veteran as a Virginia State Trooper and a national champion match shooter on the State Police pistol team, a firearms instructor and member of its first sniper team (SWAT predecessor). Mother is a retired Veterans Administration Nurse. Wife, Kimberly, was a national champion match pistol shooter, with the US Army Marksmanship Unit. Kimberly most recently served as a Marksmanship Instructor in the U.S. Army Reserves until her retirement last year. Lenden and Kimberly have two children, Mariah and Nathan, elementary school age. And three bird-hunting Brittany Spaniels, Freckles, Belle and Cocoa.
